Rutgerson expands production of yacht equipment in Sweden
When the competitors move production to low-cost countries, yacht equipment manufacturer Rutgerson continues to invest in automation and advanced machining technology in Sweden.
“We see many advantages of keeping our production here in Sweden”, says Carl-William Rutgerson.
“By keeping all our production in-house, we have full control of the quality throughout the production process. It also saves costs for transport and enable us to keep smaller stock than our competitors. This makes us more flexible and allows us to adapt quickly to customer requirements”, says Carl-William Rutgerson who is Production Manager at the family business in Marstrand, Sweden.
Rutgerson, founded in Marstrand 1976, is one of the world’s leading manufacturers of sail and deck hardware. The company is renowned for the best Swedish engineering traditions with innovative design and quality manufacturing. To stay competitive and meet the increasing demand from boat builders Rutgerson has during the last year made large investments in automation and robotics.
The latest investment, a 5-axis Mazak INTEGREX e-410 multi-tasking machine tool, permits production to go on 24/7, also during hours when the factory is unmanned.
“The new machine allows us to streamline the production processes and rise the quality even further by reducing the number of machines and set-ups required to make a component. It also enables us to produce smaller series and more complex details.”
Other newcomers in the Rutgerson factory are the advanced cooperative UR-robot, and an automatic vacuum forming machine from ILLIG which can transform large sheets (1 x 1,5 m) of thermoplastic into any shape. Both can be seen in action during Rutgerson yearly open house and factory tour last weekend of August.
As the production technology is becoming more complex the demand for skilled staff is also rising. Rutgerson is involved in several local school projects to enhance the quality and status of technical and industrial education in the local municipality.
“We hope to inspire and help increasing local youth’s interest in technology and modern industrial production methods”, says Carl-William Rutgerson.
